I’m Dan – established coder, proud father and owner of codingBox. A little bit about me. I’ve always been intrigued by the power of technology ever since my dad brought home an old IBM 286 in 1992. I was amazed by the sheer power of Microsoft Paint and spent hours of endless fun on Minesweeper, not realising the function of the right mouse-click
About My Journey
About ten years ago I began to see how the digital revolution was beginning to have an impact on education. Throwing myself into the discipline, I read everything I could get my hands on. I wanted to know how to make my command line say “Hello World!”, strived to understand why so many popups appeared on websites; how did they work? I yearned to create a To Do List that tracked what items I needed to buy in the store so as not to forget!
Even more recently I have seen the positive impacts technology is having in education for all children of any ability. These range from teamwork skills to logical reasoning to empathetic relationships with their peers. But I also realised that parents and educators, who saw these same benefits and potential, did not have a dedicated resource to learn themselves about what exactly all of these “languages” were. I saw a hesitancy to talk about code and converse with other parents on the “why”, the “how” and the “what”.
I thereby created codingBox. This is a site dedicated to Coding Apps, Books, Robots and Resources. Developed with Kids in Mind, complete with reviews, comments & discussions on the best kid-friendly programming and coding applications for mobile and desktop platforms, not to mention everything else! I sincerely hope you enjoy it and find it useful.
